My Approach

I approach each individual and each couple as an unique.  Counseling is most effective when you have a strong relationship with your therapist and I try to connect to each client and understand your individual feelings and experiences so that I can help support you through your journey. I genuinely believe in people and the ability to heal with guidance, support, and gentle coaching. I understand that it is not easy being vulnerable and opening yourself up to a stranger; I consider it an honor and  privilege to do this work.

As far as types of therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy has been proved effective in helping couples learn to connect and strengthen their bond.  Identifying the negative cycles, deepening understanding of unmet needs, fears, and longings are the major components in this type of therapy.  I have had extensive training in this model and have seen it work for my couples.  In addition, I have received training from the Gottman Institute for marital counseling.

With individual therapy, I rely on more of an eclectic approach depending on needs and preferences of my clients.  I do utilize Cognitive Behavioral Techniques often as well as Emotionally Focused Therapy and Supportive Therapy.

While I may be the professional, I will involve you in the treatment, and respect your choices and preferences as far as what you want your counseling to look like.  If you feel that I may be a good fit for you, or if you have any questions about my work, please call my office (937-336-2271) or email me at:
