I do not take insurance and there are several reasons for this.  Much of my practice is made up of couples and insurance does not cover marital/couples counseling because they do not deem it to be medically necessary.  In order for insurance to pay for a service, a patient needs to be identified and there must be a medical diagnosis.  When working with couples, I am treating the relationship, and there is not a "billable" diagnosis for those issues.  There are other therapists who may bill your insurance, but there are limits to this, and I would be happy to explain this more if you would like to speak to me directly.

In addition, insurance has become very cumbersome.  Each company that I contract with reimburses at a different rate.  Therefore, different clients are charged different amounts for the same service based on what the insurance dictates the rate should be.  Many times submitting claims is easy and there are no issues, but when there are problems, it takes hours to resolve just one issue.

I am happy to provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement if you see me for individual therapy.  In addition, I try to keep my rates fair, but I also offer reduced rates for those that qualify or have circumstances that prevent them from being able to afford therapy.  Please talk with me about this privately, and we can determine if there is an affordable solution for you.
